Angel of Victory Statue

This is a angel of victory statue. One of Messier’s important works depicts the Victory Goddess holding a defeated and dying French soldier towards honor. And the soldier’s broken sword represents the failure of the war. Messier cleverly utilized the sculptural styles of Italy and France to express this epic theme, which was both defeated and honored.
