This is Kaws Sitting Statue. Kaws’ work can be characterized by an emphasis on color and line, distinctive graphics. Such as the repeated use of “x”‘s on hands and nose and ears. Kaws lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, creating sculptures, acrylic paintings on canvas, and screen prints while also collaborating commercially, predominantly on limited edition toys, but also clothing, skateboard decks, and other products.

In “Passing Through“, KAWS created his iconic “companion” posture, awkwardly sitting down to cover his eyes. This pose first appeared at an exhibition in Hong Kong’s Harbour City in 2010, becoming his first public sculpture. Recalling the mood when he first saw the exhibition site, KAWS said, “Oh my goodness, if I had to sit here, I would be ashamed if so many people walked by me.” This sculpture became a symbol of “Passing Through,” reflecting the artist’s self-image striving for global recognition.

Afterwards, “Passing Through” was also exhibited at the Aldrich Museum of Art, the Standard Hotel in New York City, and the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. In 2013, KAWS launched a vinyl toy version with gray, black, and brown themes, while another limited edition was released in September 2018. This series of works not only highlights KAWS’s unique creative techniques, but also leaves a profound influence in different exhibitions and collections.
