1. Famous Kaws Statue

KAWS, whose real name is Brian Donnelly, is a street artist and founder of the trendy brand Original Fake. Born in New Jersey in 1974, he became interested in graffiti at the age of 12, but it wasn’t until 1991 that he began to create graffiti in earnest. Unlike the average graffiti, he didn’t paint on the walls or subways, but instead painted the skull on brand posters or posters (such as DKNY, CK’s posters).

He usually takes the poster back to his studio, paints the famous skull motif, and sends it back to its place. Because of this, he is also known as the “graffiti thief”. Once the poster is returned, it will soon be replaced by the staff. ONCE HE BECAME FAMOUS, GRAFFITI POSTERS BEGAN TO BECOME PRECIOUS, AND CLEVER ADVERTISERS WOULD TAKE THE INITIATIVE TO GIVE THEM TO KAWS FOR DOODLE, SUCH AS DIESEL, WHICH FOCUSED ON THE YOUNG MARKET.

IN THE 1990S, KAWS WENT TO MANHATTAN, NEW YORK, TO STUDY VISUAL ARTS AND BEGAN DESIGNING TOYS FOR SOME JAPANESE FASHION BRANDS. Since then, his designs have expanded to include Hennessy wine bottles, Kiehl’s cosmetic packaging, and he has collaborated with Pharrell Williams on perfume bottles.

This isn’t the first time KAWS has designed large-scale toy sculptures. KAWS hates to repeat itself and is always looking for breakthroughs. In 2006, he founded streetwear label Original Fake, which combines art and commerce, and later designed CD covers for A-listers such as Kanye West. Street toy sculpture is his new idea in the past two years.

2.Kaws Waiting Sculpture

Kaws’ work can be characterized by an emphasis on color and line, distinctive graphics. Such as the repeated use of “x”‘s on hands and nose and ears. KAWS’s sculpture works are full of humor, humor and irony, showing his profound thinking about the real society and his keen insight into popular culture, and become an indispensable part of contemporary art.

The Kaws Waiting Sculpture is located in front of One Campus Martius overlooking Campus Martius Park, in front of an office building that houses Quicken Loans, Microsoft, Plante Moran, Compuware, and more. The sculpture was paid for by Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert and his wife Jennifer. The 17-foot-tall sculpture was created by artist Brian Donnelly under the alias of KAWS.
