pauline bonaparte sculpture
This is the pauline bonaparte sculpture. Paulina Borghese is a semi nude life-size reclined Neoclassical portrait sculpture created by Italian sculptor Antonio Canova in the early 19th century.
Paulina Borghese is Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister and one of Canova’s friends and sponsors. It depicts Paulina Borghese’s body in a perspective outfit leaning on a comfortable sofa. Her head slightly raised, and her eyes soft and gazing into the distance.
Her arm extended out of the sofa, and her fingers easily moved a string of beads, as if she was attracted by charming ideas. The smooth lines of the statue, the image full of beauty and soft femininity, fully demonstrate Canova’s artistic style and skills.
The production of this statue is very meticulous and complex, especially in depicting the muscles and details of the human body, allowing viewers to deeply feel the lightness and softness of Paulina Borghese’s body.
