1. Introduction of The Hand of God Statue
The hand of god statue created by contemporary artist Lorenzo Quinn is a limited edition sculpture in bronze.
When we first saw this sculpture, I thought of the Philosophical Art Sculpture of the Thinker created by French artist Auguste Rodin. But when you look closely, they are not the same. This statue is a naked man sitting on a large palm, thinking as if sitting in the hands of God. It is conceivable that the issues it is thinking about must be particularly esoteric.
The journey from modelling to completion for each sculpture is a lengthy and meticulous process. Lorenzo Quinn begins by sculpting the model in clay or wax to be coated in plaster, ensuring to etch all the details at this stage. Once the plaster has been removed, the finer details are then added, making each limited edition sculpture inherently unique. Layer by layer, the model is coated with liquid ceramic and sand until dry, ready for the molten metal to be poured inside. After breaking the ceramic away from the sculpture, the wielding and colouring can then be added, finalising the piece.

The creative journey for each piece begins with a poem before the any of the sculpting commences.
Poem: One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed You most You would leave me.” The Lord replied, “My son, my precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
3. The Artistic Form of the hand of god statue
This thinker is strong, with two feet on the palm of his hand, and his body naturally bent, showing the curved arc of the figure. Thinking. Art lovers have the same question in their minds about the statue: what is he thinking about?
I saw that his body did not move at all, and seemed to be in a state of absolute stillness. However, through his posture, solidified movements, and refreshing muscle lines, we could completely feel that his heart was in a state of surging, because thinking, He shows endless energy, and in the binary contrast of stillness and movement, he creates a visual image full of tension for the viewer.
It is using the traditional lost wax method, which not only brings the meditator’s movements, demeanor, body bending details to life, but also the details of the hands under him. Very realistic image, the natural curved radian, the proportion of joints, the shape of the nails and other details are very realistic. The bronze metallic color adds a classicism to the sculpture, giving the sculpture a timeless artistic charm. This sculpture will be a garden, a square, a park, a commercial street… a very classic art sculpture, it will not only impress the viewers, but also comprehend the spiritual culture given by the creator in the sculpture.
